Start now with passion

It was Mothers' day yesterday and I posted a note about my Mother taking me to Karate classes when I was a child. She took the class with me, not just drop me off and hope for the best, she was involved.   When I look back on her devotion to my success I wonder are we as managers and leaders just dropping off employees and hope for their success. Do we know what they are learning and how they are using those skills ?  Involvement takes passion, foresight  and practice. Start now and find out what is being taught to your teams and be involved in their success, it can only make your company become stronger.  

I love this picture of a person after death still not wanting others to know who it is. What do most of us hold the closest to our hearts, who we are. And not just the inter you or me it is what we know that makes us who we are that we hold so dear.   In our daily life do we hold so tight those things that could help others, because we might of made mistakes and learned , but the fact we made mistakes keeps use from disclosing the knowledge?  I find that there are so many good ideas out of bad ideas that mistakes are just adjustment points to the compass of our path. If I keep my self to myself, others will not gain from error. The old saying learn from our mistakes. I don't want to learn from my mistakes I want to learn from yours' and others mistakes so I do no repeat them. Do not hide your mistakes or who you really are, be. Just start. 

This is me with a full beard. A nice dark brown full beard. The sad part for me is that it is all fake, I can't grow a full beard at all and what beard I have is gray and white. I had helped a friend pass her professional makeup exam by being her model and having a full beard applied by hand. What does this have to do with business or even life?   Often times we mask what we are really going for in our business, by not sharing our plans and goals with our employees. We do , we tell our employees to work harder, to make more, numbers are key when in fact we are just building inventory, meeting production goals even with no sales. We tell our employees all kinds of things that we think will motivate them when we  are just  putting on good makeup.  As with all good makeup it wears off or is removed. Do not think that employees will not see that . If you look close at the picture you can see my gray hair , way out of place for a nice dark brown beard...

When my son was younger I got him the best cowboy dress up out there. The hat was a vintage Stetson the holster was vintage leather, even the shirt was vintage, everything I wanted to have as a kid to dress up as a cowboy. As you can see in my sons' expression this picture was for me not him.   In our working environment we often times project what we want and see as to the process or outcome on projects. When in fact we should be focused on what our customer wants. We will justify our ideas as sound because that is what we envision.  Part of true success is being able to see what others need and truly want.  It works in a family too, what we think is best for our children might be what we think, not what they need.  Star today and find out what is their best for your employees , customers and family. 

Each day becomes night, as each night becomes day. With that in mind you have a new chance to start anew two time every 24 hours. Part of change is starting , and part of growth is starting something new.
